Wikipedia defines Self-injury (SI) or self-harm (SH) as deliberate injury inflicted by a person upon their own body without suicidal intent.
The range of behaviours includes skin picking (skinpick.com is a great resource here - ed.), hair pulling, cutting and burning any area of the body.
This range of problems requires a sensitive and supportive approach and while drugs may be helpful if the selfharm is a feature of depression they should not be the first choice
