Shared Care's Criteria for Complementary Medicines
The product or therapy must have a reasonable evidence base available to be checked. It will have evidence of clinical as well as statistical effectiveness. There will be evidence of safety and relative freedom from side effects at least as good as the comparable offering from mainstream medicine if there is one.
In the early days the editorial board will make the judgements until sufficient community feedback has allowed a broader view to be taken. Clearly the board can only recommend those things inside their experience and we declare an interest in SBS Mastertapes that manufactures Brief Contact Therapy tapes. These nevertheless fulfil the criteria of the first paragraph.
New items will be added on the recommendation of the communities and their members with the editorial board acting as a final arbiter on the basis of the available evidence. If therapies are popular but lack the evidence base their proponents will be encouraged to produce that evidence before the listing takes place.
These criteria are more rigorous than for a simple entry and successful therapies will appear in the Shared Care recommendation section. Please contact editor with your suggestion and evidence (Ideally the latter as weblinks to published papers).
The editorial board's decision on any inclusion is final.
