Natural Cures for Problems with Allergy

Author Information

A classical allergy is caused by a foreign protein getting into the body and not being recognised by that body as part of itself. The body therefore makes vigorous attempts to rid itself of the offending protein. This reaction may be very severe and excessive.

There are many things that can cause problems:-

  • Injected:- like bee stings or wasp stings causing anaphylaxis
  • Breathed in:- like tree or grass pollens causing asthma or perennial rhinitis (which is like all year round hayfever)
  • Eaten:- like peanuts which cause peanut allergy or a combination of foods which cause more generic food allergies.
  • Touched:- like latex found in surgical gloves which can cause Latex Allergy

The reactions may become more severe each time you are exposed to the offending protein and have the potential to lead to a fatal anaphylaxis.

You must seek medical help if you think that you have a classical allergy
.

The editorial board feels that because allergies are potentially very serious they are initially best dealt with by mainstream medicine, if possible.

Once a diagnosis is made and the appropriate rescue medicine has been prescribed there is often a great deal that can be done to prevent attacks. You can for instance reduce the population of house dust mites (one cause of allergic asthma) by using special bedding and so on.  AllergyUk would be a helpful resource in this respect (See also below).

Allergy Treatments

Modern Western Medicine

Some exciting desensitising treatments are on the horizon, but the mainstay of treatment is firstly anti-histamines, then steroids and in the case of Anaphylaxis, a sudden, serious and life threatening event, adrenaline injection. This should always be backed up with avoidance advice.
