Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique (devised by F M Alexander who lived from 1869 to 1955) is a method that can provide you with poise and balance in everything you do in life.
Most of us have developed mental and physical habits in order to cope with the stresses of life. These habits interfere with our natural co-ordination and poise. This stresses us and produces discomforts such as backache, headache and anxiety.
In a lesson the teacher uses light touch to encourage tensions to release and in so doing will guide you into a co-ordinated and balanced state in movement and stillness.
The greater awareness of movement acquired helps prevent injuries due to the incorrect use of our physical mechanism. Muscles are toned, in particular the strong, supporting back muscles that enable us to sit and stand for long periods. A greater freedom may be obtained in the joints and limbs, which together with the appropriate muscle tensions, provides a feeling of poise and lightness.
Alexander lessons will give you a feeling of relaxation and well-being and a technique that you will have for the rest of your life.
