Massage

What is Massage?

Massage is a system of gentle, calming, flowing intuitive massaging developed in the West from the rigorous standardised massage first described by Per Hendrick Ling in the 18th century. Eastern styles of Massage have evolved over many centuries.

There are a number of types of massage including:- , , , , , .

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is the most common type of massage. It is ideally performed with the patient unclothed on a specially designed couch with the practitioner generally treating the whole body using a variety of strokes from gentle stroking to deep pressure and treating of muscles.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is designed to help overcome and heal injuries to any muscles wherever they occur. The treatment is highly targetted towards any such injury and is not intended to be a general relaxing experience, although it may be.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage keeps the body flexible and prevents muscle injury or helps it to heal after injury. It is often a treatment of many of the body's muscle groups, rather than being targeted at any specific area.

Chair Massage

Chair Massage involves the massage of the upper body while the client is sitting in a special chair fully clothed. It is a relaxing experience.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is a massage therapy concentrating on the shoulders, neck and head. The practitioner works around the head from the shoulders and massages the whole head including face, ears and pressure points using varying degrees of pressure from facial stroking to deep scalp kneading.

Thai Massage

Thai Massage is massage in a distinctive thai style that involves stretching and deep massage.
