Natural Cures for Stress
Long term pressure at work and at home can lead to all kinds of health related problems (see all our health problems pages as most problems noted there are made worse if you are stressed and worried). However, it is often difficult to isolate and deal with the specific problem that a job may cause. Then having recognised that the difficulty is job related it is usually not easy to identify and solve it. The editorial board hope that these pages could become a forum for helping those of you who feel alone and having problems with an occupational stress situation. We recognise that it can be especially difficult to admit to such problems when your job could be at stake.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a specific problem caused by a serious life event like accident or bereavement and leads to flashbacks and all kinds of adjustment problems. It is a much more intractable problem than the normal stresses that people suffer.
Modern Western Medicine
Drugs used to control stress include beta blockers like atenolol (tenormin) and propranolol (inderal) that have effects on the blood pressure and heart. Tranquillisers such as benzodiazepines like diazepam (valium) and lorazepam (ativan) are addictive and should not be used for more than six weeks.
