Chiropractic
Chiropractic, from the greek "doing by hand", is a medical practice based upon an underlying idea that it is an interference of the functions of the nerves that is the root of disease. Joints and muscles may be the main sites for the disturbance, but the main area of difficulty is considered to be the spinal column where the bones are displaced, perhaps due to arthritis, wear and tear or trauma. Treatment is directed at realigning these and so relieving any pressure on the nerves where they leave the spinal cord. This allows the nerves to recover their normal function. Massage, manipulation, exercise, heat, cold and light may all be used to achieve this realignment.
Chiropractic is a profession with a long study and training period and are all registered with the General Chiropractic Council. Since 2001 it has been a criminal offence for anyone not registered with the GCC to call themselves a chiropractor.
