Reflexology

Author Information

by mike last modified 2008-10-01 17:34

Reflexology was developed In the 1930s by Eunice Ingham from an older idea of an american doctor Dr William Fitzgerald that there is a "map" of the body's organs on the feet. The left foot relates to the left side of the body and similarly the right foot to the right side of the body. The reflexologist can detect subtle differences in these areas and directs massage to the reflex area of the affected organ. This rebalances the subtle energy flows that are disrupted causing illness in the "reflex" organ, and promotes healing as well as a more general sense of wellbeing.

Less commonly the reflex areas on the hands can be used and a kind of acupuncture called Koro Hand Therapy utilises this idea.
