Menopause

Author Information

by mike last modified 2008-02-20 11:35

Menopause is the change in the woman in which reproductive life comes to a close and the cyclical change of sex hormones slows to a steady state. This can usher in all sorts of changes including irregular or very heavy periods, marked mood changes and depression, bloating, breast tenderness and weight increase. This normally occurs between the ages of 45 and 55.

Early Menopause can occur due to genetic causes from the early 20s onwards, but is more often caused by surgery or radiotherapy to the ovaries, drug treatments or auto-immune disease (more information)
