A Patient's View

Last modified 2014-03-16 15:40

Thirty years ago I had a serious motor cycle accident in which I sustained a fractured skull and a broken jaw. In time I recovered and seemed to return to normal health. However some ten years after the accident I began to suffer neck problems and numbness in one arm and hand.

I had little help from mainstream medicine so on the recommendation of my sister-in-law (who had suffered such severe back pain in pregnancy that she had been on the verge of having her coccyx removed) I started a course of treatment with a local Osteopath who had alleviated her back pain. I was apprehensive about having treatment as I had no idea what it would involve but was immediately made to feel at ease by the understanding manner with which I was greeted and treated. My therapist sensed my anxiety and also recognised that I was emotionally sensitive (I had recently lost my father) and concluded that I needed a gentle method of treatment and began a course of cranial osteopathy.

This treatment has not only been tremendously effective in relieving the long-term effects of my accident, but it is helpful to my whole well-being. I still receive treatment on a regular basis as it is not only beneficial but also enjoyable. I value my therapist and now regard her as a friend.
