What is Self Harm?

Self Harm Symptoms

Self Injury (SI) or self harm (SH) defined by wikipedia is deliberate injury inflicted by a person upon their own body without suicidal intent.

The range of behaviours includes skin picking (skinpick.com is a great resource here - ed.), hair pulling, burning and cutting self harm of any part the body.

This range of problems requires a sensitive and supportive approach and while drugs may be helpful if the self harm is a feature of depression they should not be the first choice. There may be related substance abuse.

Also helpful may be anger, stress, anxiety and teen health - (a common time for this issue to become a problem).
