Stomas
What are Stomas?
Stomas are the provision or an artificial outlet for urine or feces as a result of the removal or bypass of a diseased portion of the bowel or urinary tract. This is likely be a consequence of cancer or severe inflammatory disease like ulcerative colitis or crohn's disease. The need to provide a stoma (colostomy, ileostomy, urostomy) for a patient is a surgical event with long-term consequences and inevitable changes in their life style.
